Friends of Elm Wood

Gipsy Hill

Friends of Elm Wood are a Charitable Association who raise money to spend on activities, equipment and events for the school and the children who attend. We have been going for many years, and what we do has made a really big difference to the school and to the children who go there.

Feel free to come and find one of the Committee in the playground, call Lisa Nugent on 07734 801 124 or email us at with suggestions and questions.

How to join

You don’t have to do anything to join the Friends of Elm Wood. Parents automatically become Friends when their children start at the school. In fact anyone with a connection to Elm Wood School can get involved in our work: grandparents, carers or school staff are all welcome. To be on our mailing list, please email us at our email address -

"Parents and carers are valued as important partners in helping their children to succeed." January 2011 Ofsted Report

How to get involved

Regular coffee mornings after reading on Friday with refreshment provided.(Children and babies are welcome).

Evening drinks in a local pub (dates are texted and emailed in advance)

These meetings are not only a great way to get to know the other parents, but they are where we plan events and come up with ideas to benefit the school – especially through fund raising. You don’t have to be able to come to every meeting, just turn up if you are free. You can offer ideas and suggestions, or arrange to volunteer at any of the events.

Keep in touch

These are held in the autumn term each year and provide an opportunity for all parents to come along and hear in more detail about the work of the Friends, the events we have run, the funds we have raised and how the money has been spent. It is also when we elect our new committee members.

Look out for the Friends Newsletter in your child’s book bag, together with information letters about specific events planned. We also send these out from our Friends email address and from the school.

We have a Friends notice-board in the walkway into school, plus we advertise forthcoming events on posters around the school and playground. We have a Friends email group that we often use to keep in touch. If you are happy to share yours with us please email your details to
